Makaira Boats was started when owner Allan Shaw was completing his time as Marine System Engineer at Alloy Yachts, New Zealand premier superyacht builder. Allan recognised a gap in the market for offshore trailer boat’s that had long range capabilities and sound sea keeping. Allan saw a clear lack of build standards in the aluminium trailer boat building industry world wide as well as a lack of performance.

After completing his time at Alloy Yachts in 2011 Allan started drafting his ideal boat and put the wheels in motion to build hull no.1 – a King Bank 940 Called “The Game” which gained a lot of traction for the brand and was the base point for the company.

Since its founding, the company has grown steadily. Makaira now operates a purpose-built factory with the capacity to build 50 boats a year, a feat made possible by cutting-edge innovations. The factory uses a moving production line, a Lean culture, and continuous improvement to maintain efficiency and quality.

Makaira’s growth is accelerating, with demand consistently outpacing production capacity. The company has developed a strong following in New Zealand and internationally in Australia and the USA.
